the pain

pain is so relative... those who live in chronic pain would not even notice what most of us call pain... some people become immobile at the slightest pain... others continue vigorous exercise, even play professional sports with broken bones... the latter concept relates to this entry which is, of course, a bit of my personal experience as this blog is, of course, my somewhat egocentric wish for someone to care about every breath i take, ever move i make, everything i think and feel and do and want and so on and the rest and scooby do too... in any case, while i don't play professional sports, i do play a lot of softball and for the sake of this entry at this moment, therein comes the pain...

the risk of pitching in softball, especially in a usssa league, is the ball can cause pain... the ball is harder and the bats are livelier in usssa than in asa softball... so a rocket came came off the bat and hit me just below the left knee and my skin exploded... i could barely put pressure on the leg for an inning or two, but i kept pitching and the next inning i had to lead off... closed out the inning without giving up a run and got a single... continued pitching and got another single next time up... unfortunately, a lot of errors gave the other team more runs than we scored so we lost 16-12... and now, the pain... as i sit here as still as possible with my dhin elevated and iced i am slightly nauseous and yet hungry at the same time... pain, in sufficient doses, can cause nausea... what the body needs most is sleep but the pain is preventing sleep at the moment... the pain is also preventing comfort and concentration so getting into a babbling flow is not happening... while distraction usually works to suppress (or is it repress) emotional (or even pyschological, perhaps) pain, physical pain overrides even the wonders of distraction...

as if anyone is even paying attention, aye? lol lam sigh :)
