the big game

another treasured t-shirt is added to the pile of championship t-shirts tonight as we held off a scrappy bunch to secure a 14-12 victory in the championship game... i held them scoreless through the first three innings and it took a while and some errors for the bats to get going, but in the end we had a little more than they did even though we played a mediocre game by our standards... i went 1 for 4 (should have been 2 for 4 but i was lazy to first on one of the hits), knocking two runs, the second turning out to be the winning run since we let them come back with five runs in the top of the seventh... there were enough guys on their team who could't hit me to get enough outs to keep them in check, but we all were frustrated with our play... still, we got the shirts, another championship shirt to add to my thousands of t-shirts... i would take a picture of it, but i forgot where i put it... the good news is i got the championship out of the way early in the year so the pressure to win one is off... i can wait until next year to remember my streak of at least one championship every year since 2007 is back on the line... it's all so relative, but fun and good ego food...

the irony or whatever is that we did not have a game scheduled for tonight, in fact, they didn't even have a championship planned, but the league decided it would be a good gesture to us players to reward the middle, that is, make a lower bracket championship... because not enough teams showed up this season, they combined all the teams in one league and it really was no find to play the seriously good young kids and not so much fun to blow out the newbie recreational teams... so they came up with this second bracket for the middle teams who were more evenly matched and we won it all, feel free to cheer and throw money...

it's a softball life, for us...
