technobabbling

it is a scary solution when the person accepting the solution says it doesn't make sense, trusting blindly is such a human foible... so then i read that kaspersky has once again upgraded their security software and renamed it and did not notify me (or anyone, apparently) that the existing software is not being updated... planned obsolescence at work again... i read through their website and their user forums and nothing except on one message in the forum it says owning the old software gives me special rights to upgrade to the new software but there is no further explanation and no links or explanations anywhere suggesting how to use those rights or how to upgrade so i sent a query to their support network and i am downloading and installing the new product and seeing what happens... i have a current valid license, so i will see if that works... the current software has been denying itself access to updates lately, which is what prompted me to search for causes... kaspersky is also mentioned as a cause for firefox issues in firefox forums...

well the first thing that happened is it triggered the windows security center, reminding the windows security center that the windows firewall is not active (red warning) and automatic updating is not set (yellow warning) and malwre settings (yellow warning) should be checked... later... i've noticed that the installing process seems hung at 'About 5 seconds left' and the Kaspersky icon is gone from the task bar (maybe that's what triggered windows security)... so i wait for the 5 seconds left to be done... it's been at least 500 seconds... maybe even a few thousand... and then, it says it's finished... and it wants to restart the computer so i need to save and restart... fingers crossed...

and then, here we are, some time in the past 36 hours or so (manipulating time is an amusement too)... the computer started up normally... the new big K icon on my desktopon now says Kaspersky Total Security instead of Pure 3.0... the K icon on my task bar has a yellow triangle and when i hover it says 25% complete... and then a bunch of pop-ups telling me it is putting things in trusted groups and then a blue circle like when the wireless icon is connected right... and hovering says 43% complete... fingers remain crossed...

and then jackson got home with fine distraction...

Catch up (and know more)

musical distractions

If people had visible signs or meters that told something about them, what would you want it to tell you?

dumb poll (above), smart responders

all the previous poll votes were somehow erased, so, nevermind... ironically or coincidentally or whatever, the results were very close in practical numbers to the results above shown with just three votes, if you understand the mathematics behind that extrapolative reasoning... i will probably remove the poll at some point... it is a ridiculously useless feature...

SEARCH ME

the thing is, with my tendency to babble and meander and whine and allow distraction to take the lead more often than not, even in this blog that sort of meant to merge brevity with focus like some bloggers do, searching for key words does not always lead to specific information about the subject of that key word... but... here is a start at an easy way to search for key words in this blog... use the search box at the top of the blog to search for words not listed here... if ya wanna, that is... and feel free to suggest words to add to this search shortcut section... click on the words below :)
