ups and downs

speaking of softball, which is what the title refers to, today was a day of ups and downs... we won two and lost one... i played poorly... only walked on in three games, so i pitched all three games well, but i hit very poorly and my fielding was below par for me... it didn't cost us the third game cuz most of the team made errors and we lost big, but it does not feel good to play poorly even when i pitch well... in the morning game, we won big, something like 16-9, though four runs in the last inning and other runs were given up by careless play by some careless play by a couple of self-centered egos, including 4 in the last inning... in the afternoon, we won the semi-finals for the league championship 10-9 and we should have won much bigger, but i sucked with bases loaded at least twice and lots of errors gave the other team most of their runs, including 4 in the last inning...

then came the championship in the afternoon league, our last game in this league (jackson and i are taking a break from playing sunday afternoons) and we got blown out by good hitting and good defense (them) and poor fielding and poor hitting (us)... alas, one more championship game loss in that league (we've been in close to a dozen championship games over the years, more than anyone else, and we never won it all there... it's the only league where i have not won a championship and we were hoping to go out with one, but we all played so very poorly today, including me, it was not to be... a very poorly maintained field did not help at all, but we did not hit well enough to take advantage of the poor field conditions and the other team did... a lot... hard ground balls were usually hits because of the condition of the infield... we did not hit those, they did... we were missing two of our best players and had all of our weakest players in the lineup, so it was a lot to overcome and we didn't do it...

but we did win two out of three today, so it was as fun as softball can be without winning it all... it's a hard knocks life sometimes, aye?... really, much fun lol... a little sad cuz we are leaving the sunday afternoon league, but we are both looking forward to the free time on sunday afternoons, something i haven't had in almost seven years... all in all, a whole lot more ups than downs, which is a good deal for a life, and softball :)
