what kind of love have you got?

while fast asleep (or while searching some time later this morning), the memory of this sort of psychological online test came to mind and i decided to share it with you here if only because i have posted no entries for 24 hours and you must be going through withdrawals... we can take this seriously and explore the potential depression the unfulfillment of love can bring or we can smile and know that you know me a little better now after reading it...

so anyway, this one time, at band camp, i took this brain scan...

The possible results were:

  • Eros: Eros is passionate, physical, lustful love-the kind that gives you butterflies in your stomach and a tingling in certain other places. Romantic love that has tremendous passion, physical longing, deep intensity, and intimacy.

  • Ludus: Ludus is love that’s a game. A Ludic lover wants to have fun, but doesn’t necessarily want a serious relationship. There are playful interactions here but little intimacy or deep intensity.

  • Mania: Mania is an obsessive love that, while intimate and intense, often includes jealousy, possessiveness and a lack of communication. It is also known as the troubled love. This love has jealousy and dependence (often called co-dependency), great intensity, some intimacy, and many psychological symptoms related to the relationship.

  • Pragma: Pragma is a practical love. People who conceive of love this way are pragmatic when looking for a partner. They choose their mate based on rational decisions about whom they fit best with. Love that is driven by the head, not the heart.

  • Storge: Storge is friendship-based love. A Storge lover wants a companion who shares her likes and dislikes and who can form a long relationship based on closeness, trust, security and affection. Storgic lovers place much importance on commitment, and find that their motivation to avoid committing infidelity is to preserve the trust between the two partners.

None of those were my results. What was mine you ask?
My results:
  • Agape. Agape is love that expresses itself through altruism, or making sacrifices for another person. Unconditional, self-sacrificing, active, volitional, and thoughtful love. The highest and purest form of love, one that surpasses all other types of affection, non-sexual affection.

how precious... or is that pretentious... some p word comes to mind, in any case, once upon a time, perhaps with a touch of facetiousness, I might have found that fascinating.... today i find it sad because all the other types of love make sense to me too on different levels and deep down eros is at the core of my heart too (the mind chooses agape and makes the final decision) and storge is oh so very vital to me and pragma battles mania for fourth place, but all are clear and present aspects of my love with ludus as the unwated stepchild, the consolation prize of being attractive, sensitive, and aware enough to find a lover anywhere and anytime...

i am not sure where i took this, i think it was on some semi-legit psycho-babble website in the webmd vein, i don't think it was this one and i am sure it wasn't this one (though it said i had Secure Love: "Secure Love: This love is the love that everybody needs to survive. It is that feeling of being cared for and nurtured. Those that know you best see you as either a mother/sister or father/brother figure. people look to you for support and advice. You are strong, protective, tough and sometimes aloof on the exterior but deep down still waters run deep. You do not wear your heart on your sleeve but you have deep emotions and are an inner softie." or maybe it was The Nurturer "In love, you are quietly intense, devoted, and tend too hold on too long. For you, sex is a way to get closer - and a way to take care of your partner. Overall, you are altruistic and eager to please your sweetie. However, you tend to also be non-confrontational and secretly frustrated with relationship issues.", so it shall remain a mystery for now unless i linked it in some other entry or find it some time later on...

fascinating stuff, no doubt...

and just to water the emop (emo potential) down even further, here are others, probably even less reputable, meaningful, scientific, or rational, but then, it's love, so rationality has little to do with it... seriously, whether you think there are three types or four types or six types or ten types or whatever , i say stop the analysis and go out and love somebody... go ahead, i'll be here when you get back :)

musical distractions

If people had visible signs or meters that told something about them, what would you want it to tell you?

dumb poll (above), smart responders

all the previous poll votes were somehow erased, so, nevermind... ironically or coincidentally or whatever, the results were very close in practical numbers to the results above shown with just three votes, if you understand the mathematics behind that extrapolative reasoning... i will probably remove the poll at some point... it is a ridiculously useless feature...

SEARCH ME

the thing is, with my tendency to babble and meander and whine and allow distraction to take the lead more often than not, even in this blog that sort of meant to merge brevity with focus like some bloggers do, searching for key words does not always lead to specific information about the subject of that key word... but... here is a start at an easy way to search for key words in this blog... use the search box at the top of the blog to search for words not listed here... if ya wanna, that is... and feel free to suggest words to add to this search shortcut section... click on the words below :)
