the world out there and stuff

i left out the 2013 Hot Dog Eating contest on ESPN for a whole hour... the draw for me is it is at Nathan's on Coney Island, my favorite hot dog place ever... franks, actually, as in frankfurters, if you are from nyc, but hot dogs for the rest of the country i suppose... i remember when they were five cents (yes lucy, 5 cents) a dog... ok, so maybe i remember 15 cents... and Coney Island was devastated by hurricane sandy, which is also part of the show... i lived so near there... on that very coast line...

and so i spent a couple of hours searching for information about the flooding that happened where i lived as a child... and the whole neighborhood was flooded and my house got up to 18 feet of water... that would have drowned me... i wonder if they evacuated... i wonder if the maps and reports are right... since i don't know anybody who still lives there, i've got no one to ask... since i haven't lived there for years and was not there at the time of sandy, there's no point in being dramatic... but it's still curious i did not check it out earlier... just like i didn't know they finished that world trade center building... leaving the world out of my daily life a lot lately...

and i like it this way...
