college football

college football championship weekend is exciting, but also a let down... half of us are happy and half of us are sad, but still there are no definitive champions because there are too few games in which a true champion to prove themselves... the ridiculousness of looking primarily and wins and loses in a 12 game season is lost on most people, especially when most of the top teams carefully create their very short schedule to offer them the best chance to win and not to offer them or anyone else the best chance to prove they are the best team...

personally, i'd like to see a sixteen team playoff after the twelve games most teams play... and that should not happen until the teams with the top ranked defenses play the teams with the top ranked offenses in a round robin tournament to determine the rankings in the sixteen game tournament... too many games?... then limit the "regular season" to ten games or eight games because the meaningless games scheduled against teams that end 50-0 or something like that, a fallacy in the system almost every team uses to increase their wins... meaningless wins should not count...

yup, so this year, as in every year, the popularity contest and cheating (i call it cheating, even if the rules don't say so) and bias chooses the championship contenders and losing late in the year overrules a loss earlier in the year even if one loss is to a great team and the other loss is to a mediocre or simply good team... the way college footbal is set up allows for a handful of teams to be bullies and some teams to pretend they are better than they are and the majority of teams to just get pushed around... what is worse is how people love to kick someone when they are down and ridicule others and college football provides an almost endless opportunity to do both...

and though there are all these and more flaws and the worst of all part is how people seem to love the brutality of the sport, it's still fun to watch the finesse plays though... for some, the point of the game is to see the big hits, the injuries, just as for some the point of auto racing is to see the crashes... for me, the point of the game is precision passing, spectacular catches, and elusive running... for me, the point is to score points, not hurt people...

i know, i'm sacrilegious... throw a flag if you must...

musical distractions

If people had visible signs or meters that told something about them, what would you want it to tell you?

dumb poll (above), smart responders

all the previous poll votes were somehow erased, so, nevermind... ironically or coincidentally or whatever, the results were very close in practical numbers to the results above shown with just three votes, if you understand the mathematics behind that extrapolative reasoning... i will probably remove the poll at some point... it is a ridiculously useless feature...

SEARCH ME

the thing is, with my tendency to babble and meander and whine and allow distraction to take the lead more often than not, even in this blog that sort of meant to merge brevity with focus like some bloggers do, searching for key words does not always lead to specific information about the subject of that key word... but... here is a start at an easy way to search for key words in this blog... use the search box at the top of the blog to search for words not listed here... if ya wanna, that is... and feel free to suggest words to add to this search shortcut section... click on the words below :)
