practice, maybe

i wish it was cheaper to drive places... i mean, to the sunday morning league (and friday night league too), tolls run $4.10 (actually $5 but the e-pass discounts help) and gas runs about $5 and too often i buy water or caffeinated drinks for another $5 or more... this is every friday night and sunday morning... it's the same for a saturday practice, more or less, depending on the field... and there's extra gas cost (about $5) on sunday cuz the afternoon league is back on another side of town... i cut back by bringing my own water as much as possible, but sometimes a sugar-caffeine drink is needed when i am tired... the softball teams themselves cost from $35 to $55 a league or $2 to $8 a game (and go figure, the league that charges $8 a game is the only one without ASA umpires, the least organized, and the umpires they provideare young novice unofficial in-training umpire and usually just one per field... the league that charges $2 a game has the best organization and at least 2 ASA umpires per game...

all that comes to mind as i sit at the field waiting for someone to arrive... the fields are locked... it is time for practice... one other person is here... i really hope i did not waste $15 and worse, i could have slept...
