learning the stat tricks

ok, so apparently the spambots will not travel back more than a week so an update (catch-up session) that spans more than a week will leave the entries more than a week old without any spambot views therein reducing the page views for those entries... i learned this by observing that the entries from may 31 and june 1 have no page views at all, i mean, none... that means not even you dearly loved devoted readers found your way back there so it is almost defeating the purpose of blogging to let a catch-up session go on for more than a week... noting this for future reference...

on the other hand, when i suddenly flood this blog with entries, the stats go through the roof... the may 27-28th catch-up session suddenly had 325 page views on may 28th... the june 8-11th catch-up session suddenly had 452 page views on june 9th, 314 on june 10th (the 24 hour captcha hell slow down), and so far 395 page views for june 11th... i believe the dates start around 7pm my time and go for 24 hours and the month table updates after 7pm so i won't know june 12th stats until tomorrow... this is well above the approximately 100 page view average per day that had been maintained for a while... the vampires (vampirestat... not recommended*) are leading the way in page views sending today and 963 for the month and 1807 all time, though different stat pages have different numbers (these are the highest)... since there are almost 47,000 page views all time, they are still just a fraction and only recently have they (the vampires) increased so much... my site is second with 1035 and google is third with 685... so i have no clue where the other tens of thousands of page views and referral sites came from... google blogger stats remain largely a mystery...

still love numbers, but wish google's numbers would make more sense :)

*PS... take this good advice if you are finding lots of visitors from specific sites you don't know to your blog(s)... here is google's take on it...
