strange computer

it is possible the laptop has been hacked or has some infection that kasperkey and spybot and every other security software i've run recently has not noticed, but for whatever reason there have been changes to basic root settings on this laptop including notpads opening in word wrap mode (a change which i imagine would have happened at the registry level) and some odd behaviors (the most noticeable being a complete and sudden shut down of the computer seemingly correlating with a recent overheating of the hardware which is not addressed by a new fan blowing under the casing and hopefully brings remedy to that one) and a selfserviceplus appelet seemingly popping up randomly that i traced back to opera (which i have since uninstalled with hope that new interruption goes away) and increasing cpu and hard drive usage even when the laptop is closed and supposed to be resting and a few other strange behaviors that are occurring in the background leading me to turn off the wifi more often while i am using the laptop and after the laptop is idle...

it is time for a complete wash, a multi-layered deletion and wipe and re-imaging of the hard drive... first, though, i must save all the files (docs, photos, etc) on my back up drive which i must find and connect and then i can figure out how to do the multi=layered complete wipe and reimaging)... anyway, it's an odd time with the strange computer behaviors these days, but it has not appeared to alter anything i am doing to the best of my knowledge (so good hack if you're out there)...

i think i'll nap now (good to take a day off) :)
