it didn't help, even though we scored 5 runs in the first inning and took a 503 lead... we scored 7 total... we gave up 23... we played a level C team with some B players... that's the trouble with the league, there is no rating system so seriously competitive teams get to play casual recreational teams and that's not much fun to casual recreation teams... and people can get hurt... one of our players was knocked down by the other team's third baseman who was standing on third blocking the bag without the ball... she bounced off the blocking player and landed hard on the ground and got a bit of whiplash and laid there for a while... i hope she is ok...
it's supposed to be a casual recreational league, a social recreational league... but they want to make money so they don't turn away the higher level teams and they don't respect ASA ratings... that can make it dangerous for the social players... the team we played also used illegal bats, but the won't test bats in this league cuz that costs money... they don't use ASA umpires cuz that costs money... they provide one novice umpire so there are lots of missed calls (one umpire cannot watch multiple plays) and the higher level teams can take advantage of that better than the recreational teams due to better skills and experience...
i stayed in the third base coaches box and dugout and i cheered and coached and everybody did the best they could... we'd all rather play in another league that was better run and more fair and we keep our eyes open for other leagues in town, but this is our only choice for sunday afternoons at the moment...
anyway, we had as much fun as we could...
