long week, times three

while the buss for writing was inspired a bit tonight (thanks to a few words left in a comment to the last entry, thank you very much), fatigue is closing the eyes... the emergency generator conked out this week and my hope that it would be fixed today was dashed because, while the generator was fixed (and the bill appears to be almost $2000 when it was estimated to be about $600 over the phone just yesterday, though that might not have included previously done items combined on the invoice received tomorrow... time, ya know, it's relative), the automatic transfer switch which cost the place $15K or so last year seems to be broken and the contractor is blaming the old generator even though it worked on tuesday (it's tested automatically every tuesday), so what conveniently broke between tuesday and friday while they were working on repairing the generator?)... i don't understand why don't contractors understand that a series of failures that happen during repairs is very suspicious to a consumer leading to grounds for a second opinion and possibly switching to a new contractor... good old american short sighted greed, perhaps... so he may make a pot of money this round, but he may lose his contract over this...

anyway, along about 4pm i find out the bad news and i am ready to tell the staff to keep flashlights handy and call me immediately in the event of a power failure (because there is a chance i can start the generator manually) and i find out that there is just one very small emergency flashlight in the hurricane emergency kit and rather than search (since most of my managers were gone), i ran out (during rush hour, of course) to buy a lantern and two large flashlights for each house and handed them out and told staff to call me immediately in case of power failures...

that made me almost late for meeting jackson and her mom and nieces for her softball game tonight (i was just a few minutes late as long as i skipped dinner) and we hung out at a park and and watched jackson play and then came home to put the kids to bed and i made some dinner and finally sat down in the past hour to write as i nod off...

a full challenging fun life is tiring, but wonderful :)

i hope you make yours so too :)
