i love movie musicals... the only theatre experience better than a movie musical is a live theatre musical... usually i am disappointed when a movie tries to capture the energy and excitement (and story) of a stage musical but tonight, les miserables almost did not disappoint at all... yes, almost... they could have developed the Valjean - Javert relationship more, but even the theatrical production and the non-musical film softened the original hugo story a lot... but all the nit-picking excrutiatingly critical commentary and comparisons aside, it was a magnificent movie experience and i cried many times... everyone was surprisingly good, but she was a favorite new find...
