from one perspective, like the bottom line budgetary view, my job is a lot of make work to keep busy cuz the hospital could run alright without me or my position, however the government and regulatory agencies and insurance companies and all those who advocate for improvements and the best hopsital care and services possible demand a performance improvement and risk management program (in fact, there is a law), so i've got a job and it's up to me to create most of it...

so i play with numbers and create and recreate spreadsheets and databases and queries and graphs and reports a lot cuz there's always a better way to analyze and process and communicate information that will help improve patient care and services and systems and so on...

yeah, a lot of it is make-work that i find fun, but somebody's gotta do it :)
